As well as being the hub for business and government activity, Dar-es-Salaam is viewed by corporates as a gateway for East and Central Africa, helping to make it one of the continent's fastest-growing cities. Tanzania's economy is booming, with the projected growth to be over 8% in 2015, driven mainly by the expansion of the country's transportation, communications, manufacturing and agricultural industries. In the medium term, growth will be supported by investments in infrastructure and natural gas, including the ongoing construction of the US$1.2 billion gas pipeline from Dar-es-Salaam to Mtwara.
